Last
night’s CEW Beauty Insider
Awards Product Demo broke records: the most attendees (2,300), the
most products (820). I felt like I was having an out-of-body experience. Or was
it sensory overload? Whatever! I perked up when on my way home I found a bag of Sabatino Tartufo
truffle chips and a cupcake from
Tonnie’s Minis to snack on. And yes, I’m writing this
blog post the day after the demo in a beauty fog. I do have more to share: some
of my favorite products, but stay tuned, the photos are on their
way.
For
now, here are some
of the people who attended our big beauty party and what they ate.
Digital It Girls
February 15, 2016
-
Anastasia Beverly Hills Founder, Anastasia Soare, and Claire Soare, President
-
Bridget Dolan, Vice President, Sephora Innovation Lab
Great speakers at this year’s WWD Digital Beauty
Forum. Sephora’s Bridget Dolan,
entertained and impressed the entire audience with Sephora’s outstanding digital
innovation. They are years ahead of their competitors.
The breakout star of the day was definitely Claudia
Soare, President of Anastasia Beverly Hills, daughter of the company’s founder.
She stood out in the crowd with her long grey hair, dressed all in black,
including a black knit ski hat, as only a true beauty could.
An early adapter of Instagram, Claudia put the brand on the
map with her on point-posts, beginning in 2012. She helped make it into a $100
million-plus business with more than 8 million followers. Admittedly, both she
and her mother respond to their followers themselves. Some of her rules of
engagement: don’t pay for followers (loyalists will know), acknowledge, listen and
respond. She charmed the crowd admitting this was her first public speaking
gig, and spilling her water, mid-speech.
Fragrance and Film
February 08, 2016
Lisa Klein and I were invited to the launch party of Derek
Lam’s new fragrance collection at the Angelika Film Center. The crowd was very
cool, very downtown, not the usual beauty suspects—and that included us!
What:
• 10 Crosby Street Fragrance Collection: Derek Lam’s new scents • Fragrance and film: 10 short films created to represent 10 fragrances
• The scents: from musky to floral to a salty wood /amber
combination • The fragrances: created by four IFF Perfumers
• The food: popcorn (truffle, butter and caramelized)
Who:
• The Attendees: actors, designers, fashion types, artists
• The Developer: Robin Burns-McNeill’s new company, Butterfly Beauty
• The Filmmakers: Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, Supermarché/Moxie
Pictures Production.
Here's a trailer
that shows clips from each short film, which are named after each fragrance.
